In 2006, Regis Prograis was an amateur boxer who relocated to Houston, Texas, from New Orleans, Louisiana, after losing everything in Hurricane Katrina. During that pivotal timeframe, reading transitioned from a hobby to a lifestyle.
After becoming an avid reader and applying knowledge from books, Regis Prograis became the first world boxing champion from New Orleans in more than a half-century. Shortly after reaching what appeared to be a pinnacle in his career, Prograis found himself in an unforeseen position after being the top-ranked fighter in his division for several years.
During the most adversity-filled stage of his career, he overcame the unthinkable to become the first 2x world champion in New Orleans history.
Regis not only became a boxing pioneer for his hometown, but he also became a testament to how far hard work, reading, and persistence can take you.
